NEWS 2026 (So Far...)
2026 has already been a remarkable year of teaching, performing, and collaborating around the world.
Dan spent a week at Keith Johnstone's Loose Moose Theatre in Calgary, working alongside Dennis Cahill, Frank Totino, Veena Sood, Rebecca Northan, and an outstanding group of local actors and improvisers exploring Keith's legendary Lifegame format.
More than twenty-five years after first performing Lifegame with Improbable in New York and later with Impro Theatre in Los Angeles, Dan still considers it one of the most challenging—and inspiring—forms of improvisation. Because each performance is based on the true life of an audience member, the cast must listen deeply and portray every moment with honesty, compassion, and joy. The week of workshops and performances was both invigorating and humbling. As Keith himself often suggested, we're all still figuring it out.
The year continued with a whirlwind of performances and teaching: directing and performing in a livestream production of Tennessee Williams UnScripted at Dynasty Typewriter in Los Angeles; teaching workshops and performing at the Asheville Improv Festival in North Carolina; joining London's Free Association for its inaugural international festival, Big Scene; teaching with Inconspicuous Improv in Copenhagen; and returning to Charleston for the Piccolo Fringe Festival.
After completing the National Alliance of Acting Teachers' Teacher Development Program in 2017, Dan was honored to return this year as faculty, teaching both the West Coast Teacher Development Program at USC and the NAAT Congress at Juilliard. Both cohorts were filled with inspiring educators whose curiosity and generosity made for an exceptional learning experience.
2025
Dan spent a vibrant month in Italy, collaborating with Coffee Brecht in Naples, teaching workshops for Assetto Teatro and Manallarte in Rome, and performing at the Welcome! Festival with the acclaimed company I Bugiardini. During his stay, he also made a guest appearance on Emily in Paris.
He went on to headline six sold-out performances at Charleston's Piccolo Fringe Festival with Tennessee Williams UnScripted and Doozy!. Other highlights included producing and performing in a celebrated evening of LA Theatresports, teaching at The Hideout in Austin, collaborating with Jane Austen Improvised, and co-directing a sold-out run of Jane Austen UnScripted at the Garry Marshall Theatre.
Dan also returned to teach workshops for the Joint Special Operations Command.
In the fall, he taught two sold-out Narrative and Genre Improvisation intensives for London's Free Association, where he also directed the company's house narrative ensemble. Throughout September and October, he taught and directed with Dad's Garage in Atlanta, Front Porch Improv in Savannah, Adesto in Asheville, and Theatre 99 in Charleston.
He concluded the year by joining his favorite improviser—and partner in life—Edi Patterson in the Synthetic Theatre project in Charleston, performing alongside Danny McBride and digital artist Beeple.
